Bahamas Cruise

Day 103 (5/18) – North Palm Beach

As we hope to be able to resume travel on Sunday, Paula decided to launder the sheets and few bits of remaining dirty clothes. Although no rain was forecast ‘till 11 a.m. a cloudburst caught her at 8:30 a.m. at the open-air dryer which fortunately is under a flat wooden roof. The clothes stayed dry in the dryer, and Paula only got mildly damp waiting for the hard rain to subside.

Paula did laundry this morning and got stuck there waiting for another one of the constant procession of thunder storms that have been passing through here all week. This one is a good example of why we haven’t left yet. While we don’t mind traveling in light to moderate rain, if the visibility is reduced it can be a problem on this next stretch of the ICW where there are so many bridges.

When the sun peeked out, Tommy and Paula worked on cleaning C Ghost’s exterior and brightwork until lunchtime. We then took a short walk through the condo communities which abut the North Palm Beach and border the ICW. We were able to get a look at the Porter Bridge opening, which we will traverse when we leave. We also explored the North Palm Beach Country Club. It is undergoing renovations, but has a large lane pool, and several smaller ones. We also saw some interesting signage.

This bridge is just outside the marina entrance, and is the first of seven opening bridges we will have to contend with when we leave here.

This sign is posted just outside of the North Palm Beach Country Club. Apparently the “children” here are 25 year-old Olympic athletes.

Paula did some interior cleaning and we both napped, then showered in anticipation of Karen and John’s visit. As Karen came straight from a business trip, she flew into Ft. Lauderdale airport, drove to Boca and scooped John up, and they met us at the Sandpiper’s Cove Restaurant, on the grounds of the Old Port Cove Marina. We had a very tasty meal, mostly seafood, and yummy deserts. It was great to be able to catch up with each other on all the recent travel, their current real estate adventures, and family news. Best of all, we got to Facetime at the table with Lisa and Allan (Tommy’s next youngest sister and brother-in-law), Mom and Dad Corby, and even Cami and Vinny (the last two are the dogs).

We had a great time tonight with Karen and John (Karen taking this picture). So nice to see family again.
