Tahoe 2024 – Week 2

The week began with getting in some exercise and replenishing supplies consumed by the weekend festivities. On Tuesday we wend hiking on the “Sand Harbor Trail” to Fallen Leaf Lake. It was a five mile out and back that featured a very nice stop at the edge of Fallen Leaf Lake at the turn around point.

The colors on the mountains surrounding Fallen Leaf Lake are spectacular this time of year.

On Wednesday we went on a shorter but more challenging hike up to the top of Tahoe Mountain. This mountain is not particularly high (~600 feet of climbing) but was a good intro hike to get us ready for higher climbs later this summer. As is always the case here with getting up to higher elevations, the views were amazing.

The area here was very lush and green.

In what has become a weekly tradition for Miller and Makai, an early morning “plunge” in the very cold water starts the day.

It only takes a minute or two in the cold Tahoe water to get refreshed.

Another weekly tradition, making tasty food, did not disappoint. Friday night was rice, vegetables, and shrimp made on the flattop grill. Saturday lunch was pulled pork and ham Cuban sandwiches, also prepared on the flattop, pressed nice and flat with aioli, cheese, and sliced gherkins.

Lots of great chefs contribute to our awesome meals

Kyle and Miller took the scooters on a long ride down to the Stateline and back, where they scoped out the changes around Heavenly and the casinos. A brief but impressive thunderstorm followed but cleared in time to allow steaks on the smoker, finished on the grill, Caeser salad, and baked potatoes with trimmings, eaten outside on the picnic table. Afterwards, we enjoyed candles and homemade deep chocolate birthday cake, in honor of Dacia’s birthday. This baking masterpiece was courtesy of Glenny and Makai’s baking skills.

This morning, breakfast burritos are on the menu, with burgers planned for lunch.
