Snack Tray

Tray10

Since moving onto on the boat, and spending a lot more time in the main salon, we wanted a convenient place to set down drinks or snacks when sitting on the forward end of the starboard settee. This location is a favorite movie/TV watching position. This is the same area where the dining table folds […]

New Lifelines, Gate, and Railing

Lifelines-Featured

Before we left Maryland, we decided to replace all of our lifelines as we had noticed a lot of rust developing underneath the vinyl covering of the old ones. We didn’t want to take any chances on the trip south and this looked to be a reasonably straightforward do-it-yourself project. I say “reasonably” because, after […]

Breaker Panel Cover

Breaker-Cover-Featured

A few years after we got the boat we found we needed to expand the 12V electrical system beyond the original installation that came with the boat. To that end, one of the first things we did was install an additional 12V circuit breaker panel, the subject of one of the very first posts to this […]

Christmas!

Christmas-on-the-Boat-Featured

I know we haven’t written in a while (too long!), and wanted to get a couple Christmas pics of the boat posted. Although the temps are still in the low 70’s most days here, it only got to 50 degrees yesterday. It was cool enough that we got a nice fire going in the salon […]

Nights of Lights

Nights-of-Lights-Featured

Shortly after we arrived here in St. Augustine, we saw preparations taking place to dress up the downtown area with annual Christmas cheer. We’d heard that St. Augustine did a particularly nice job at this, but were totally unprepared for what we were about to see. Lights and decorations adorn the city from November 19th […]

Becoming Floridians

Stylized-Pelicans-Featured

Once we arrived here in St. Augustine and got somewhat settled in our new surroundings, we turned our attention to the topic of becoming “legal” residents of the state of Florida. We’d done a fair amount of research on this before leaving Maryland since our situation was complicated by the fact that we intended to […]

Storing Small Propane Bottles

Propane-Bottles-Featured

Some time ago, I read an article in “Good Old Boat” magazine about a nifty way to store the small propane bottles that are used to fuel marine/camping barbecue grills. It turns out that the standard size small propane bottle fits nice and snugly inside a piece of 4” schedule 40 PVC pipe. All you […]

Installing a Solar Panel System

Solar-Panels-Featured

I read a lot of articles from solar component manufacturers and other boaters on how to plan and design a solar energy system for our sail boat. Our goal was to see how close we could get to being self-sufficient at anchor with just solar power without sacrificing all the comforts we enjoy at the […]

Magazine Rack

Magazine-Rack-Featured

We wanted a low profile magazine rack that wouldn’t protrude too much from the wall it was mounted on and also blend in nicely with the teak interior of the IP420.

Spice Rack

Spice-Rack

There is a perfect place for a spice rack in the IP420 galley under the companion way and against the wall separating the galley from the aft cabin. This custom rack can hold 16 large spice jars and displays three nice nautical themes on the side which faces into the main part of the cabin.
