The featured picture for this post is of the narrow entrance to the marina through the markers. You can see dark spots in the water all around the entrance channel which represent the coral heads to be avoided.
Today was primarily a day of rest. Tom did a few morning chores, changing a fuel filter following yesterday’s fuel polishing effort and making more water. Paula woke early and got busy in the galley. By midmorning she had cooked jerk chicken, cooked “regular” chicken, crockpot corned beef, and apple crisp, half to freeze and half for our next few dinners. We also experienced the “aaah” feeling of doing laundry at the marina’s boathouse and having soft, warm, clean clothes, towels, and sheets. After we were done, we went to the very nice beach that is actually part of the Palm Cay “Club” but that marina guests are also able to enjoy. There were tiny fish swimming around the aquatic plants that dotted the bottom, and tiny black and white snails clinging to the rocks. The temperature was a near perfect 78 degrees and it was partly-sunny all day. The beach area was partially sheltered from the high wind today which was coming from the NW.
After lunch we took a walk around the grounds of the Palm Cay community and to the other side of the marina. Paula got some pics of local fauna and the ever present palms. The birds around are harder to photograph because they all fly very fast and seem extremely wary of humans. There are boat-tailed grackles, which are very shy and hide in the foliage, half-collar doves that swoop everywhere very fast, and loud and aggressive mockingbirds.
After circling the community, we arrived at a vantage point at the back end of the marina that looks across all the piers and out to the entrance.
We came back to the boat and read in the cockpit for a while and are now getting ready to have dinner aboard. Tonight it was an “everything” salad (spinach, olives, cucumber, pecans, onion, carrot, pepper, tomato) with shrimp on top and pan-sautéed plantains. Apple crisp will be a treat for later tonight. Tomorrow we plan to go back into Nassau check out one more marine store (which was closed when we were there on Saturday) and do a bit of touring.
