Intracoastal Waterway Cruise

Day 5 – Solomons Island, Md.

Well at least it’s not a hurricane! Although last night in the forward cabin hearing the wind moan through the stays as it gusted to 34 knots we were very glad to be at a mooring and not swinging on the hook in some isolated cove.

The anchorage at Solomon’s

Despite being stuck in port, we have found lots of stuff to keep us busy and we are amazed at how many of our friends are writing us and keeping up with the blog and in some cases, offering advice and information such as this link which shows the live cam off of Solomon’s. This is courtesy of our marina friends and fellow Island Packet owners Dean and Sandy Wolverton.
This morning it showed lots of waves and wind and boats bobbing like mad at the dock. Didn’t see anyone out on the water. Tommy and I have been able to get to a lot of little nuisance jobs that we didn’t think we’d have time for on the trip, and I’ve also been snooping on the sailboat registry to learn about some of the other boats in our mooring field. One is from the UK and one from Australia, so they are not registered here, but many of the others are, and it’s interesting to learn about their length, draft, and home ports.
Socializing has been limited to waving as we pass each other in the dinghies to the marina, due to the inclement conditions. The anchorage itself is very pretty and there is a lot of visual interest.
The forecast for tomorrow has been changing throughout the day so it will be another early morning game time decision. We will be prudent!

Just wanted you to see below the first thing we saw in the morning…
