Bahamas Cruise

Day 80 (4/25) – Palm Cay

Glennis’ first morning in the Bahamas was meteorologically celebrated by an early a.m. thunderstorm. Fortunately, Glennis slept through most of it due to jet lag. When she awoke, we had coffee and soon the sky cleared and we were able to open up the cockpit canvas.  Then we had the traditional cockpit “boat breakfast” of scrambled eggs with cheddar cheese and onions, bacon, strawberries with Thermos yogurt, and Bimini Bread with butter. We caught up on stories and gossip and looked at some family pictures.

Thunderstorms this morning.

Next, the beach. We were lucky enough to see lots of wildlife in the rocky shallows: small coral, tiny sergeant majors and some blue wrasses, juvenile gar, many snails, and one small barracuda!

These guys were right near the beach in shallow water. No need for the underwater camera with the very clear water.

Guess who belongs to these toes?

Legs or hot dogs?

For variety, we then swam in the pool and had a light lunch poolside. By now it was 2 p.m. and the sun was pretty strong, so we returned to the boat and each of us took a cat nap.

In the later afternoon Tommy taught Glennis the rudiments of chess while Paula put dinner together. Tommy set up the salvaged cockpit table that he had made into an extension to accommodate an extra person and lots of food. We had steamed spiny lobster tails with garlic butter and lemon, mashed sweet potatoes with Five Spice Powder seasoning, sautéed zucchini, and more bread and butter.

A very yummy dinner in the cockpit this evening.

After dinner, Tommy did dishes and Paula and Glennis planned a walk around the marina. Boat gravity took hold, and Glennis’ sandals wound up in the drink, necessitating a hasty “man overboard” rescue before we could take our promenade.

A team effort managed to retrieve both sandals.

Tom does the dishes most nights.

We met several sailing families on our walk around the marina and heard about their travels: Rose Island, Green Cay, Atlantis, Georgetown before darkness fell and we headed back to C Ghost for leftover cheesecake, M & M’s, and Tahoe cookies. A very satisfying first day of Glennis’ visit. Can’t wait till tomorrow.

  1. Hi Beautiful Glennis. So glad you were able to get away to be with your Mom & Dad. After not seeing any Pics of you over the past few months, these Bahama shots re-affirmed how much you favor my looks, your good-looking Corby Grandfather. Love Ya!

    1. Yes, and she is teaching us all the cool new memes like “hot dogs or legs” and advising us of all the words and phrases now forbidden to our age group. Very instructional.
