Thunderstorms returned last night after Mission Impossible and persisted until about 11 a.m. Undaunted, we continued with plans to go to downtown Nassau. Paula baked a quick loaf of bread, and we had a quick fruit and coffee breakfast. Tommy picked up the marina car, and off we drove through huge puddles and driving rain to Ardastra Gardens, Home of the Marching Flamingos, considered to be Nassau’s one “zoo.” The animals seemed unfazed by the rain, and we enjoyed ourselves, especially as we got super-personal attention from the garden staff as we were one of only two families in the zoo.
Glennis got to interact with the flamingoes during the marching show. It was nice that the rain had just about ceased by the time the show started. We were the only people who came to the lorikeet feeding time and so got lots of birdie attention (featured picture).
[KGVID]https://cghost.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/Glennis-crying-480.mp4[/KGVID]A pair for birds in the park sounded just like human baby’s crying. Glennis and Paula couldn’t resist lip-synching.
We then returned to Curly’s Daquiri Bar and Fish Fry for a Bahamian lunch of conch and fried fish sandwiches, chicken souse and Johnnycake. Amazingly, our waitress from last visit over a month ago recognized us, and thanked us for a mention we made about the restaurant on Trip Advisor.
Next, Paradise Island! After driving the main drag of Nassau, West Bay Street, through the Straw Market, the sketchy section, and Potter’s Cay, and over the bridge to Atlantis. We toured the mega yacht Atlantis Marina and some of the interior shops and then walked off Atlantis grounds onto Paradise Island proper, where we were amazed by the incredible gardens of the Ocean Club.
By the time we returned to the car, we had walked over 4 miles, and were tired and sweaty. Tom took the scenic route home, paralleling the northeast coast of New Providence. We passed the park, the fish market, and several beaches. We stopped at a scenic pull-off to watch a large thunderstorm form, spawn two rudimentary water spouts, and then move off west.
After this dramatic sight, we came down to earth and visited the grocery store where we picked up some fresh fruit for tonight and tomorrow.
The team of Glennis and Daddy whipped Mommy’s butt in chess. Paula then served dinner: pre-cooked frozen chicken Tikka Masala warmed up and served with buttered rice, leftover steamed green beans, fruit salad with kiwi, pineapple, papaya, strawberries, blueberries and watermelon. Two day-old bread and butter finished off the old loaf. Paula will use the new one for sandwiches for tomorrow’s lunch.
If the weather is as good as forecast, we will try to take C Ghost out for a spin. Tonight, we go retro with Mission Impossible #1 and will eat some of the remaining brownies.
