Living Aboard

Ian

C Ghost came through hurricane Ian in good shape with only a few scratches. Although Ian’s winds in the marina were stronger than those from the much more damaging hurricane Irma (2017), they came from the opposite direction. As it passed by us just offshore, Ian’s strongest winds were from the north to north-west which is more favorable for both our boat and the entire marina.

Also, the storm surge in our marina was not nearly as bad as it was with either Irma (2017) or Matthew (2016). All in all, we were very lucky.

The metal ring on the edge of the pier around the piling is at the high tide level in this picture. As you can see from the fresh scrape marks on the piling, the storm surge added about 3-4 feet.
