We arrived in Sacramento on Friday, still somewhat bedraggled due to our colds. Fortunately, Glenny and Kyle were away till Sunday, so we avoided exposing them and used the time to rest, lounge on the sofa to watch movies, and recover. We did have Sunday night with Glenny and Kyle, and she made a wonderful dinner of salmon topped with crabmeat and sides.
Monday we drove to Tahoe and were saddened to see a number of areas, some quite close to the road, where burnt trees and other fire damage due to last season’s wildfires. There were many spared areas as well, fortunately.
The cabin was intact, and the outside looked much the same as last year. The view of the mountains was beautiful and clear, the lake colors sharp and vivid. Inside, we were happy to see some upgrades: a newer and cleaner sofa, 2 comfy living room chairs, a new Smart TV, and new mattresses on some of the beds, and a new shower surround. The kitchen and dishes had some additions and some subtractions, but all in all very workable, especially having a ready and willing source in Kyle and Glenny, to bring us some needed missing items, like more forks, cutting boards, etc. They have been wonderful in helping supply us-bringing coolers, chairs, etc, and best of all themselves.
Monday and Tuesday Tommy and I restocked with groceries and did some extra resting to help shake the last bits of our cold. Wednesday, Glenny came around 7 a.m. and worked from the cabin, and in the afternoon Kyle, Dacia, Miller, and Makai arrived. We were so happy to see them and Makai, now 2 and a half, seemed delighted to play in the yard again. He has grown tall, and speaks VERY well. Our guests provided dinners which we all helped to put together and clean up from: marinated grilled chicken on one night, marinated flank steak another, YUM!
Thursday night, the four adult friends went to a Kenny Chesney concert, while Tommy and I looked after Makai. Predictably, all went smooth until bedtime, when Makai became aware that his Mom wasn’t going to be doing his nightly bedtime ritual and cried. We soothed/bribed him with a video on the iPad, read him The Lion King, as well as a page from a Disney tour guide, and then just laid beside him till he fell asleep. First thing next morning he told Dacia: “I was crying for you.” Guilt much?
Dacia, Miller, and Makai had to leave on Friday, but Glennis and Kyle stayed till Saturday afternoon.
Tommy and I finally felt recovered enough to restart running. We also took a short hike today through part of the Truckee marsh. Tonight will be great leftovers, and more time out on the deck.
