We got on the road around eight this morning and started off towards Laramie, Wyoming. The road was pretty flat with surrounding buttes, mountains, and areas of plains where we saw cattle and multiple snow fences, designed to keep winter precipitation off the highways.
The historic downtown of Laramie is beautiful and manages to keep its old-world western feel despite modernization and many thriving and beautiful shops. One called Sugar Mouse described itself as a “cupcakery” and was designed like a little girl’s fantasy palace in pink and white with flowers everywhere and served an amazing variety of huge and delicious fancy cupcakes. There was also beef stew on the menu for any who might feel their masculinity in jeopardy in the girly surroundings.
There were many antique and knick-knack stores, fun to browse in. For dinner we went to “Born in a Barn” a wing and burger emporium featured on Guy Fieri’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. The food was amazing- Paula had a Swiss and mushroom burger and Tommy had smoked chicken wings with two different kinds of sauce. It was terrific, and a diet is looming at least in Paula’s near future.
After dinner, we walked several blocks thru many happy Friday night food and party-goers and lucked upon the Friday evening Farmer’s Market right next to the railroad tracks. There was everything to buy, from fresh fruits and produce, to clothes, to shaved ice, and more. Tom got a piece of apple pie, but Paula abstained as she feels like a blimp.
