This week was quiet and went fast. Monday midday we waved our guests goodbye for a bit, knowing they’d be back on Friday, except for Cathianne, Brian & the kids who had to go back to the Midwest. Tuesday was kind of a domestic day, cleaning up & doing laundry. Each night this week we enjoyed great leftovers from the weekend, so very little cooking needed to be done. Wednesday we hiked the trail course at Spooner Lake in anticipation of the 5K Tom, Glenny, & Paula had signed up for to run this Sunday. Very pretty surroundings and nicely maintained sandy trail, not very technical.
Thursday we walked down to the El Dorado beach weekly fair as it was setting up. There was a beer garden, tent booths with trinkets and memorabilia and a trio of obese highly urbanization squirrels. These three were so used to handfeeding that they ran and sat perilously close to our pant legs, begging for treats. They wouldn’t leave until Paula showed them her hands were empty. Reminded us of Pig Beach in the Bahamas.
Friday we grocery shopped. People started arriving midday. Kyle served up some of his sous vide pork, along with Glenny’s coconut rice and beans and a cucumber salad. Friday night there was a rousing poker game, with lots of laughter and fooling around. Miller won!
Saturday, after a breakfast of egg bake and blueberry/banana cornbread, all the ladies and Makai & Tayva walked to a nearby playground with great equipment which was great fun. The guys did some scootering to places serving good beverages.
Kyle blew up the two kayaks in preparation for a Sunday early morning trip with Miller while others would be at the race. Saturday night, Miller outdid himself with a superlative hibachi dinner with fried rice, marinated chicken, shrimp, scallops and veggies.
Next morning, Kyle & Miller got up early to kayak the inlet of Lake Tahoe, and Tom, Paula and Glenny got up early to drive to the racecourse. It was in the 50°s at first, and Paula was grouchy as she hates even a little cold, but her mood improved once she warmed up. The race was around Spooner Lake, and it was nice-sized, not too crowded. While only a 5K this time, it was challenging because of the altitude (7200 ft.) and that it was all unpaved trail. We all finished and had a good time.
Makai got to go to the bicycle park which made his weekend. Folks hung out, played washers, and ate smoked pizza a la Kyle. All throughout the weekend there was lots of play with the kids which we all enjoyed.
Then Miller, Dacia, Makai & Tayva had to go home, with the promise to return this coming weekend. Can’t wait. Sunday night, the remaining weekenders had dinner at the Oyster Bar in the Golden Nugget Casino. That’s become a yearly tradition as it has the most delicious bouillabaisse, pan roasts, oysters, clam chowder, etc. Afterwards, stuffed, those who could keep their eyes open watched the movie Almost Famous.
