Intracoastal Waterway Cruise

Day 3 – Solomons Island, Md.

Although we would rather have traveled further today, weather prudence dictated that we remain in Solomons, and we still had  a good day.  Tom used the rainy morning to investigate the weather forecast and the likely changes to our travel schedule that will result. He also analyzed the political situation vis-a-vis last night’s debate and shared his insights with Paula. Once enlightened as to the state of our nation, Paula felt moved to drag out the big emergency med kit and made a re-inventory, noting what items are soon to expire and will need replacing. Together we reviewed operation of the AED and oxygen tank set up-the most complex parts of the kit-hopefully never needed.

The rain subsided to drizzle so we dinghied to Zahniser’s and walked into town. Had fried oyster lunch at Stoney’s Kingfishers and then tried to walk off the calorie load exploring the boardwalk and other parts of town.

Always on the lookout for good boat names and ports-of-call

Once back at C Ghost, Tommy cured Octavius so we now have autopilot. We ran the generator to recharge the battery bank, as the solar panels could only crank out 5 amps in the gloom. We used the “on-genny” time to recharge our computers and the hot water tank as well as the small shop vac battery, all of which require AC.

The weather is only marginally better looking tomorrow, so it will be a game-time decision in the morning if we go.

    1. Thanks Matt. I thought we’d at least get a little farther than we have in the first four days. Looks like we’ll probably be here tomorrow as well.
