Living Aboard

Isaias

All is well here after Isaias passed by us early this morning. We didn’t get nearly the wind or rain that was predicted. The featured picture is a screen shot I took this morning from our favorite weather app (PredictWind). The northern Florida coastline is on the left side and the little green dot about halfway down the coast is St. Augustine where our boat is moored. On the right side you can see the rotation of the storm with the darker colors indicating the highest wind speeds. It was not at hurricane strength when it passed us.

Just like with hurricane Dorian last year, we benefited from being on the left side of the storm because it’s forward motion up the coast canceled out some of the speed of the rotational wind that was hitting us. The opposite case exists on the right side of the storm where the forward motion is additive to the rotational wind. You can see that effect where the darker colors are on the right side of the storm (don’t want to be there).

No damage at all either to the boat or our marina.
