We are really feeling the benefit of crossing time zones, as when we wake up naturally it’s still early. We got a good breakfast at the hotel and listened to our server’s accounts of living thru wildfires. We got a good start and the roads were relatively free of traffic. The scenery beside the road was rocky with low hills. By mid-morning our car sensor told us it was 105F outside.

Signs on the road cautioned motorists about frequent dust storms during which there may be zero visibility, and how to avoid crashing during one. They recommend pulling off the road, turning the engine and all lights off, and taking your foot off the brakes. Apparently, they only last a few minutes, but whew! I’m glad we didn’t encounter any.

There were three different areas of New Mexico and Arizona along interstate route 10 where a series of road signs warned about the dust storms and what to do if you got caught in one.

Tonight we are staying in a hotel/casino complex on an Indian reservation. The featured picture for this post is the view just outside the hotel. It’s called Vee Quiva, which means “Mountain West”. It is beautiful and large. The casino area is very large and had a Tuesday afternoon crowd of folks at the slot machines and at the blackjack table.
