The last week of our 2026 Tahoe summer was graced with more of the awesome weather we’ve had all along: clear skies, lots of sun, and breezes.

This past weekend was the last with the Cenats till next year, and we made the most of it with a big hike of the Fallen Leaf Lake trail. All 9 of us went, plus Jackson. Glenny carried Charlie in a front pack, and Miller and Dacia carried Rayelle and Tayva in back packs. It was very windy at first, but the wind moderated once we were in the woods proper. The scenery was beautiful with the lake on one side, always visible, and the woods on the other. The trail was only a little technical and everyone felt comfortable. The only issue of concern (besides bear worries, as one had just been sighted on the trail-not by us!) was that Dacia was stung by an unknown venomous insect (likely a yellow jacket). She is allergic, so she swallowed two Benadryl and bravely soldiered on, with only local swelling, no need for the EpiPen, thank goodness!

We also ate like kings: Glennis made an superb dinner of marinated and smoke (thanks Kyle) pork tenderloin, spiced rice and braised scallops with caper and lemon sauce. Miller outdid himself with savory and shrimp and grits and Texas toast garlic bread.

There were fond farewells on Sunday, tearful ones from Makai, as this last weekend represented a prolonged parting from Jackson, of whom the kids had become fond.
Kyle had to leave on Sunday as well for a work trip to Utah. So Glennis, Charlie, Tom and Paula decide to take a hike to Angora Lakes resort. It is a relatively short uphill climb (a little less than a mile) but at the top are not one, but three still, clear, mountain lakes, as well as a souvenir and snack shop, and a handful of rustic small cabins that can be rented for the short summer weekends. Sounds idyllic, but no phone, or wifi, so they appeal to folks wanting to really get away from it all. They are pricey as well, and there is a long waiting list. We had some of this shop’s famous lemonade, really great, and Glenny and Tom got souvenir coffee mugs.

Today Glennis, Tom, and Paula did some pre-packing and walked 3 miles around the neighborhood with Jackson. We never get tired of seeing the unique homes here. We had lunch at dog-friendly Sprout’s cafe. Tomorrow we will pack in earnest and load the cars for our early Friday morning departure. We hope to have our traditional “last morning” breakfast at Heidi’s Pancake House, and then drive back to Folsom with Glenny and Kyle and Charlie. It’s another banner Tahoe summer in the books, and we are grateful for all our family and good friends that shared it with us and made it so very special.
