Cross Country Drives

Vicksburg, MS. & Witchita Falls, TX.

Got an early start this morning so I could spend some time touring Vicksburg, Mississippi. There was a really nice Civil War Memorial park where you could drive slowly through the famous battlefield and stop to read plaques and take pictures. The setup was very similar to the Gettysburg Memorial in Pa. It was a beautiful day with no rain and lots of American flags out.

Most of the memorials in the park looked like this one of General Wm. Sooy Smith.

If you were really important, like General John Logan, you got a full body statue.

If you were really, really important, like the entire Illinois Regiment, you got one of these.

After touring the battlefield, I spent a little time walking in downtown Vicksburg which was a very scenic and pretty town. It is set right on the eastern bank of the Mississippi River.

That’s my car parked on the right side of the quaint downtown street.

The rest of the trip was mostly due west straight to Wichita Falls, Texas. It was a total of 635 miles today. The audio books I’m listening to are great and they make the time pass easily.
